OLEAN, N.Y. – The Bucknell University baseball team fell, 11-5, in a nonconference matchup at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bison drop to 4-15 in the loss.
The Bonnies used three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to pull away from the Bison in an 11-5 win.
The game began positively for the Bison, who put two runners on with one out after Jack Schuler walked on four straight pitches and Dominic Toso singled through the left side. The runners then moved to second and third on a groundout, before Evan Madigan brought home the two with an RBI single up the middle to give Bucknell a 2-0 lead.
The Bison extended their lead in the top of the second on a sac fly from Schuler that scored Jared Drizin, who reached after being hit by a pitch, and was moved to third on a single by Caleb Broughton and a groundout.
The Bonnies pulled two back in the bottom of the frame on two doubles that brought in a run each.
St. Bonaventure threatened once again in the bottom of the third with the bases loaded and one out, but Austin Odell, making his second career start, got out of the jam after a 6-3 double play ended the inning and kept the score 3-2 Bucknell.
However, the Bonnies loaded the bases again in the fourth with no outs, this time managing to capitalize with a sac fly, a groundout, and a single to take a 5-4 lead after four. Four more runs in the bottom of the fifth added to the advantage for St. Bonaventure, two of those coming on a two-run home run.
Bucknell grabbed two runs in the fifth after Alex Baumann singled to right center with one out before moving to second on a single from freshman Brendan Lowery. Miles Moore then delivered a double to left center two pitches later that scored both and brought the Bison within striking distance at 9-5.
However, the Bonnies added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth as they held on for an 11-5 win.
Dominic Toso finished 2-for-5 from the plate, while Miles Moore went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Caleb Broughton also managed two hits for the Bison, who managed 10 as a team. Odell (0-2), took the loss on the bump for Bucknell.
The Bison will return to Depew Field for the first time in almost three weeks when they face Saint Joseph's on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
