BOSTON, Mass. – James Burr scored three of his four goals in Boston University's game-ending 8-1 run, and the Terriers rallied past Bucknell 13-9 in a Patriot League men's lacrosse matchup on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Will Yorke scored three goals, Ryan Durkin added a pair, and Tommy Sopko, Alston Tarry and Matthew Barkauskas all had a goal and two assists for the Bison (2-6, 1-2 PL). In addition to Burr's four goals, Boston University (6-2, 1-1) received a hat trick from Brendan Homire and two goals and four assists from Chris Gray.
The Bison held the high-scoring Terriers to three first-half goals and led 5-3 at the half. After Boston University opened the second-half scoring, Yorke, Tarry and Sopko all scored in a span of 2:45 to up Bucknell's lead to three goals at 8-5.
But the Terriers outscored the Bison 8-1 over the game's final 24:32. Josh Williamson's goal evened the game at 8-8 before Sopko found a cutting Barkauskas in tight quarters to give the Bison a 9-8 edge with 1:46 left in the third quarter. Gray tied it 31 seconds later, and then Michael Laviano came from X to score with just three seconds remaining in the period to give Boston University its first lead of the day.
Burr's goal off a Laviano feed gave the Terriers a two-goal cushion three minutes into the fourth quarter, and they tacked on a pair of man-down goals in the final 2:14 to ice the game.
Christian Klipstein stopped 12 shots in goal for Bucknell, while his counterpart Joe McSorley had 11 saves.
Boston University outshot Bucknell 46-36 and led 38-28 in ground balls and 19-7 in faceoffs.
Bucknell now has a week off to prepare for a top-10 team in Loyola. The Greyhounds, who were ranked No. 1 in the nation earlier in the season, come to Christy Mathweson-Memorial Stadium next Saturday at 1 p.m. The contest will be televised by Stadium and will stream online via the Patriot League Network.
