Baseball Opens Conference Play at Navy This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University baseball team will begin its conference slate on Saturday through Sunday with a four-game series at Navy, picked second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll.

The Bison are 4-10 this season following a 1-4 trip in Florida for Spring Break.

About the Bison

Bucknell will look to get Patriot League play started on the right foot after a 4-10 beginning to the season in nonconference play.
Bucknell opened up its conference play last season against Navy, a 10-2 win for the Bison in game one.
The Bison have won their opening game in conference play in each of the last three seasons, and have gone on to take three out of four in two of those series. Navy took three out of four from the Bison in last year's opening four-game series.
Bucknell won its opening game in Florida, 8-7, over Toledo before dropping its next four games to close out the trip.
In the win, Nate Grisius earned his first win of the season after four innings of work while only allowing one hit, including escaping a bases loaded, no out jam with just one earned run.
Bucknell held on in a close one as Brenden Tuttle earned his first save of the year, protecting a three-run lead in the ninth to help the Bison win its first game by a single run since a 2-1 win at Holy Cross on April 14, 2018.
JohnPaul Bell is currently second in the Patriot League in batting average at .429 behind Lehigh's Ryan Malloy. Caleb Broughton also ranks in the top ten with an average of .313.
Jack Simpson is fourth in the Patriot League in strikeouts with 22.

About Navy/Series History

Bucknell is 71-83-1 all-time against the Mids, including a 1-4 record in 2018.
In the lone Bison win in 2018, a 10-2 decision in Lewisburg, The Bison utilized RBIs from five different players, including four from Evan Klugerman, to take the win.
Dominic Toso finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Luke Hartman went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
The last time Bucknell played four games in Annapolis was in the 2017 season, in which it won the first game before dropping the next three to the Mids.
However, the Bison rebounded from that series to take two games in a row from Navy in the Patriot League semifinals to advance to the Patriot League Championship Series.
The last time Bucknell finished a season series with an edge on the Mids was in the 2014 season in which it went 6-0 against Navy in the regular season and postseason combined.
The Bison went on to finish 16-5 in the Patriot League that season and advanced to the NCAA Regionals.
The Mids are 10-7 this year, and are led by pitcher Noah Song, who has an ERA of 0.35 and is 2-0 on the season with 52 strikeouts.
Liam Lowery has driven in 16 RBIs this season, while Zach Biggers has 11 RBIs.
