RESULTS
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- J.P. Raftery fired a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Bucknell men's golf team in the third and final round of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, which wrapped on Tuesday afternoon. After struggling with rounds of 317 and 321 on the first day of the tournament, the Bison were much-improved on day two, finishing with a 301 tally to move up one spot to an 18th-place finish.
Raftery birdied the 2nd, 12th and 17th holes on the way to his 73. She shot 225 over 54 holes (76-76-73) to place T-34th.
Jason Lohwater and Chris Tanabe both conquered the par-5 15th hole after a rough ride there a day earlier. They both parred the hole on Tuesday on the way to posting 75. Tanabe was 1-under on the back nine, while Lohwater was even on the back in the final round.
Carter Cook finished up with a 78 and Peter Bradbeer an 83 for the Bison.
Charleston Southern parlayed the round of the week -- a 10-under 278 -- into a come-from-behind team victory. The Buccaneers started the day in eighth place but ended up winning the tournament by four strokes over Furman and five over Memphis.
Memphis did pick up some hardware with Brad Bawden earning medalist honors with a 4-under total of 212. His final-round 70 was good enough to hold off High Point's Brandon Einstein by one shot.
Bucknell returns to action March 23-24 at the Colgate Match Play at the Country Club of Scranton.
