Raftery cards pair of 76s on Day 1
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The Bucknell men's golf team opened its spring season with scores of 317 and 321 on Monday at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. The Bison were led by a pair of 4-over-par 76s from JP Raftery and sit in 19th place heading into Tuesday's third and final round.
Bucknell's five-man unit played plenty of solid holes in their first competitive golf since October, but the Bison were stifled by some big numbers that elevated their scores.
Raftery made five birdies on the day and is tied for 36th place with a 152 total. Also for Bucknell, Peter Bradbeer shot 77-80, Carter Cook posted 79-81, Jason Lohwater 88-84 and Chris Tanabe 85-90.
Temple compiled rounds of 292-295 to take a one-shot lead over Furman. The Paladins were one of four teams, along with Davidson, Memphis and Dartmouth, who still had players on the course when darkness fell.
Temple's Trey Wren has the individual lead at 4-under, two shots better than Brad Bawden of Memphis.
The third and final round gets underway on Tuesday morning.
