About the Bison
- Bucknell makes its 2019 spring debut against a large a loaded field at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic this Sunday through Tuesday.
- Head coach Lisa Francisco will line up Katie Childers, Casey Morrow, Meredith Langs, Erin Holmes and Sally Sohn this week. The Bison will be paired with players from former Big South rival Presbyterian, and they will tee off on holes 7-9 in the opening round starting at 8:30 a.m.
- The Bison are coming off a tremendous fall season in which they competed in five tournaments and set a school record with a 310.1 team scoring average. The previous mark was 312.0 by the 2011-12 squad.
- Bucknell chopped more than nine strokes off its average from last season, and one of the reasons was significant improvement throughout the lineup. The Bison only had to count a score in the 80s five times in 15 rounds in the fall
- Also setting a fall scoring record was senior Childers with a 76.1 average in 15 rounds. The senior bettered the record of 76.8, set last season by former teammate Lindsay Dodovich.
- Along with Childers, Morrow (76.7), Holmes (78.7), Sohn (79.5) and Langs (79.9) gave Bucknell five players with averages in the 70s for the first time in team history.
- Led by a 1-over-par 73 from Holmes in the second round, Bucknell closed out the fall with a seventh-place finish among 13 teams in a strong field at the Delaware Invitational.
- Morrow had the low round of the fall with an even-par 72 in the final round of the Pinehurst Challenge.
- This will be Bucknell's 10th appearance at what is billed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the nation. After 36 holes of play, the top 24 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 25-48 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point. Last year, host College of Charleston won the team title with a three-round score of 872 (+8), followed by runner-up Murray State (+15). Jacksonville State's Valentina Giraldo, Murray State's Lucila Puente Rodriguez and UNCW's Lyberty Anderson tied for individual medalist honors (-5).
- Bucknell's best showing here came in 2012, when it qualified for the championship flight for the first time and finished in 13th place out of 33 teams. Minjoo Lee shot 76-73-77 and finished T-17th.
- Last year, the Bison finished 40th out of 43 teams with a 54-hole total of 966 (325-317-324). Lindsay Dodovich (78-78-78) was the low Bucknell player. Childers, Holmes, Langs and Morrow also competed last year and will be in the lineup this week. Childers' final-round 78 was the best among that returning group.
- Bucknell will be back in action on March 11-12, when it hosts the Bucknell Spring Break Intercollegiate at the Reunion Resort in Orlando, Fla.
