No. 22 Women's Water Polo Goes 4-0 at Mercyhurst Invite

ERIE, Pa.-- The No. 22 Bucknell University women's water polo team ran away with a 19-5 win over VMI in Sunday morning action at the Mercyhurst Invite thanks to three four-goal scorers and four players who boasted four or more points on the day. In the nightcap, the Bison defeated Gannon, 17-6 with five goals from Ally Furano.  Â

Game One: Bucknell 19, VMI 5

The Bison scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back as Larissa Hodzic and Ally Furano found the back of the cage for Bucknell early on. After the Keydets responded with a goal of their own in the first period, the Bison rallied off 15 straight goals until VMI got on the board midway through the fourth as Bucknell cruised to a 19-5 win for their fourth straight by a combined margin of +48.Â
A. Furano led the way for the Bison, scoring five goals and adding one assist in the win. Kali Hyham, Rachel Craig each had four goals, while Emily Konishi tacked on seven points with three goals and four assists. Paige Furano tallied four assists, and Marcela Herrera added three assists. Georgia Lewis and Hayley Pogue combined to limit the Keydets to just five goals on the day, each making seven saves.Â

Game Two:  Bucknell 17, Gannon 6
The Bison scored the first four goals of the game just three minutes in before the Golden Knights found the back of the cage. Hyham, A. Furano, Hodzic, and Konishi each tallied a strike for the Orange and Blue to start. After Gannon pulled within four, 6-2, the Bison scored twice more to take an 8-2 lead at the end of the first on two strikes by A. Furano. Bucknell continued the spurt in the third quarter, scoring four more goals for a 6-0 run before the Golden Knights responded with a goal with four seconds left in the half as the Bison went into the break up 12-3 and eventually take a 17--6 win over the Golden Knights. Â
A. Furano continued to show off her goal scoring prowess, notching five goals and three assists in the win.  Konishi also posted a strong game with four goals and three assists. Hyham and Nina Benson each also picked up multiple goal games. Â
Georgia Lewis made nine saves in the cage for the Bison as they kept their opponents under ten goals for the sixth time in their last eight games. Â
The Bison will have a week off before traveling to the Harvard Invitational on March 2-3. Â
