No. 24 Women's Water Polo Runs Win Streak to Seven With Two Wins on Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 24 Bucknell University women's water polo team extended its five-game win streak to seven with two wins on Saturday afternoon to open the Harvard Classic.
Bucknell improves to 12-2 overall with the two wins.
Game One: Bucknell 8 Iona 4
After an early goal by the Gaels, Sarah Mooney responded with a goal on an assist from Marcela Herrera to even things up at one early on in the first period. The Bison then scored the next three goals to extend the lead to 4-1 in the second period on two goals by Kali Hyham and a single strike by Ally Furano. A goal by the Gaels to cut the Bison lead to 4-2 was then answered by A. Furano to maintain the three-goal advantage heading into halftime, 5-2.
Bucknell pushed its lead to as many as five with two unanswered goals in the third period by Hyham and Emily Konishi.
Bucknell then added an eighth goal in the fourth period by Konishi and eventually took an 8-4 win.
A. Furano, Konishi, and Hyham each posted multiple goal games, while Mooney notched Bucknell's other goal. Hererra, Gigi Rojahn, and Paige Furano added two assists, while A. Furano added three ejections drawn.
Georgia Lewis posted nine saves in the cage for the Bison.

Bucknell continued its impressive run in the afternoon contest in a rematch against Gannon from earlier this season.
After a 4-2 early lead, the Bison scored three straight to take a 7-2 advantage into the halftime break. The three goals were scored by three different players in Mooney, Konishi, and A. Furano. The Golden Knights managed to cut the Bison lead to 9-5 in the third period, but the Bison managed to put the game out of reach with five straight goals from four different players. Larissa Hodzic, A. Furano (2), Konishi, and Hyham spurred the run with goal scoring strikes. A. Furano added one more goal right before the final whistle on an assist from Regina Younger for Bucknell's final tally.
A. Furano posted a huge game for the Bison, scoring six goals and adding four assists for a ten-point day. The ten points ties the Bucknell single-game record for points in a game. The feat has been accomplished by a Bison player five times in history, including a ten-point performance by Konishi earlier this season against McKendree.
Hyham added four goals, while Konishi tallied three goals and an assist. Rojahn added three assists, while Paige Furano supplied two helpers for the Bison.
Lewis posted seven saves in the cage for Bucknell.
