LEWISBURG, Pa. – Kaitlyn Slagus scored a game-high 18 points to lead four Bison players in double figures as the Bucknell women's basketball team cruised to a 76-58 victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Sojka Pavilion. It was the 11th consecutive win for the Bison, who improved to 21-4 overall and 12-1 in Patriot League play. The Raiders fell to 9-14, 5-8 PL.
Bucknell's five seniors were honored during Senior Day ceremonies prior to the game. Slagus, Maegan Mikkelsen, Kyi English, Rachel Dumiak and Kate Walker all started and combined to score 35 points and grab 16 rebounds. Junior Ellie Mack (13) and sophomore Taylor O'Brien (10) reached double figures off the bench.
Bucknell used a 15-0 run in the first half to open up a 44-26 halftime advantage. The Bison led by as many as 30 points (61-31) in the second half.
"This was a good win in a great environment," Bucknell head coach Aaron Roussell said. "It was important for our senior class. They came out with a nice spark. We let the emotion get the best of us a little early but we calmed down after the timeout."
One game after scoring her 1,000th career point, Walker scored 10 against Colgate, including seven in the first half. Abby Kapp added six points, while Marly Walls and Autumn Ceppi contributed five apiece.
Eight Bison players combined for nine 3-pointers, including two from Slagus. Mikkelsen hit one early to put her team up 7-2 and Dumiak added one early in the third quarter to up the lead to 21.
"We're an offense that from a personnel standpoint and a spacing standpoint, when we're good we can be hard to guard," Roussell said. "We have players that can score inside to really open things up. To get nine threes from eight players is quite an attack. When we are hitting shots like that it makes us very dangerous."
English did her part with five assists, giving her three straight game with at least four helpers. She also had two of Bucknell's seven steals. The Bison tallied 10 blocks in the game, including four from Slagus and three from Kapp.
Bucknell finished with a 40-33 advantage on the boards. With the team pulling down 10 on the offensive end and 30 defensive rebounds, Roussell will donate $300 to the Kay Yow Fund to fight cancer.
Colgate had two players score in double-figures with Rachel Thompson getting to 14 points and Mylah Chandler adding 12.
The Bison clinched a top-four seed and a home game in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament. They are currently tied with American for first place, four games ahead of third-place Boston University with five games to play.
Bucknell's 11-game winning streak is one shy of the record set by the 2016-17 and 2017-18 teams. The Bison will look to tie that record when they host Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Greyhounds are 4-20 overall and 3-10 in the Patriot League following a 55-52 win at Lafayette.
