Women's Swim & Dive Collects Four Medals on Bucknell Invite's Second Day
12/7/2019 9:25:00 PM | Women's Swimming and Diving
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Maddie Hartigan won her second event, and Emma Hadley scored a runner-up finish, during the Bucknell Invitational's second day.
In addition, Hartigan teamed with Emily Gorham, Abby Merriman and Sophia Donati for a second-place showing in the 800 freestyle while Alexis Faria touched the wall third in the 100 butterfly.
At the end of Saturday's events at Kinney Natatorium, the women's swimming & diving team is in fourth place with 714.5 points. Towson (1,244), Fordham (1,022) and Davidson (732.5) remain the top-three teams.
Hartigan, who on Friday broke her own school record to win the 500 freestyle, nearly set a new Bucknell standard in the 200 freestyle. Her time (1:48.35) was a fraction of a second slower than Abigail Rosenberg's record (1:48.29); it represented over a second improvement for Hartigan, who was previously slotted third in school history with a time of 1:49.41 set at last year's Bucknell Invitational.
Hadley touched the wall second in the 100 backstroke; her time (55.52) would have been good for sixth in the Bison annals if she didn't already own the second-fastest time (54.44).
Not to be outdone, Faria clocked Bucknell's third-fastest time (55.06) in the 100 butterfly; she already owned the third spot in the school record book with a time of 55.65 clocked at last year's ECAC Championships. In addition, the 800 freestyle relay team posted the Bison's fifth-fastest time (7:26.46).
Hartigan, Hadley and Faria also teamed with Alexandra Ritorto for a fourth-place performance in the 200 medley relay.
Other Bison who competed in the 'A' finals were Gorham (6th in the 200 freestyle), Paige Schoelkopf (7th in the 1-meter dive), Donati (8th in the 200 freestyle) and Alaina Schumann (8th in the 1-meter dive). Merriman also won the consolation finals of the 200 freestyle.
The Bucknell Invitational concludes tomorrow at Kinney Natatorium. The preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. while the finals are slated for 5 p.m.
