Men's Swim & Dive Begins Competition at Bucknell Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team began competition at the Bucknell Invitational on Friday at Kinney Natatorium.
Leo Kuyl was the standout performer on the Bucknell Invitational's opening day. The freshman placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and anchored the fourth-place 200 freestyle relay team.
Kuyl's time of 20.63 in the 50 freestyle preliminaries was good for ninth in school history; he teamed with Matt McGoey, Matt Mills and Jack Rose to clock a time of 1:22.54 in the 200 freestyle relay, which slotted them 10th in the Bison annals.
McGoey (200 IM), Will Cadwallader (1-meter dive) and Mitch Gavars (500 freestyle) added sixth-place performances in their respective events. Mills was the other Bison to compete in the 'A' finals, taking seventh in the 50 freestyle.
Kuyl and Rose also teamed with Ryaan Hatoum and Jacob Lubinski for a seventh-place showing in the 400 medley relay.
At the end of the first day, the Bison are slotted sixth with 260.5 points. Towson (370), Rider (334) and La Salle (318) comprise the top-three teams.
The Bucknell Invitational continues tomorrow at Kinney Natatorium. The preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. while the finals are slated for 6 p.m.
