CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Bucknell's Will Cadwallader, Maddie Hartigan and Paige Schoelkopf captured Patriot League weekly honors for their efforts at the Bucknell Invitational.
Hartigan, who yesterday was named the Bison Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career, was selected as the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week. Cadwallader was chosen as the Male Diver of the Week while Schoelkopf was tabbed as the Female Diver of the Week.
Cadwallader was Bucknell's top male diver at the three-day event, taking sixth on both the 1-meter (251.70) and 3-meter (245.65) boards. Schoelkopf also excelled, placing fourth in the 3-meter dive (236.75) and seventh in the 1-meter dive (208.00).
Hartigan won three gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal. She captured a gold medal on each day, winning Friday's 500 freestyle, Saturday's 200 freestyle and Sunday's 1,650 freestyle. In addition, she led off the second-place 800 freestyle relay team and went third in the 100 freestyle.
Hartigan also rewrote the Bison's record book. In the 500 freestyle, she clocked an NCAA 'B' cut time of 4:46.62 to best her previous school standard by nearly three seconds. During the preliminaries, she posted a time of 4:47.30, also faster than the school record (4:49.16) she set as a freshman at last year's Patriot League Championships.
Hartigan nearly set a new Bucknell standard in the 200 freestyle. Her time (1:48.35) was a fraction of a second slower than Abigail Rosenberg's record (1:48.29); it represented over a second improvement for Hartigan, who was previously slotted third in school history with a time of 1:49.41 set at last year's Bucknell Invitational.
Hartigan then clocked Bucknell's second-fastest times in the 1,000 (10:03.91) and 1,650 (16:36.44) freestyles. She previously held the second spot in both events with times of 16:44.99 and 10:06.57 set at last year's Patriot League Championships.
Cadwallader, Hartigan and Schoelkopf, and the rest of the Bison, return to action in the New Year by hosting Johns Hopkins on Friday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m.
