RESULTS Bucknell's winning V4+ PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J. – The Bucknell rowing team turned in a strong showing at the inaugural 1969 Cup, hosted by Delaware on Mercer Lake over the weekend. The Bison posted top-three finishes in all five events, highlighted by victories in the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight.
"It was good to see the whole team out and racing," said head coach Stephen Kish. "This was a great way to end our fall campaign. The women performed extremely well, and we hope to use these results to propel us through winter training into the spring season."
The 1969 Cup was established this year as part of Delaware's 50th anniversary celebration of women's varsity athletics. The Cup is awarded to the winner of the Varsity Eight competition.
Bucknell's V8+, under the direction of coxswain Natalie Minella, posted the fastest qualifying time before finishing second in the Grand Final with a time of 7:10.38. Drexel won the Cup with a time of 7:04.74, with Connecticut, Marist, Saint Joseph's and Fordham rounding out the top six.
Daniela Sciulli directed the 2V8+ to a convincing five-second victory over UConn, with Drexel, Villanova, Marist and Delaware following. Likewise, the V4+ earned gold medals, with coxswain Juliana Collins guiding Erin Rigney, Gwenn Taylor, Izzy Feige and Jess Volcheck across the line first. The Bison were the only foursome to finish in under eight minutes (7:58.53), with Fordham second in 8:00.29.
Also for the Bison, the Freshman/Novice Eight was runner-up to Drexel, and the Third Varsity Eight placed third behind UConn and Villanova.
