About the Bison
- Bucknell, after a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Army, was shut out 1-0 on Tuesday evening by Cornell its last nonconference game of the regular season.
- The Bison will finish the regular season in the state of Pennsylvania, albeit on the road, with two tough matchups at Lafayette on Saturday before taking on league leaders Lehigh in Bethlehem.
- Bucknell, which saw its five-game unbeaten streak snapped on Tuesday, will look to strengthen its positioning in the Patriot League standings on Saturday, as the Bison are currently in the fifth spot.
- Bucknell on nine points is level with Boston University for the final two spots in the Patriot League standings.
- However, the Bison hold a potential tiebreaker over the Terriers thanks to a 3-0 win at Emmitt Field on Oct. 20.
- Lafayette is currently fourth in the standings on 13 points, four ahead of the Bison. The top two teams in the standings will get a bye to the semifinals, while the four seed will host the five seed and the three seed will host the sixth seed in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 9.
- Both Colgate and American sit just two points behind Bucknell in the standings on seven points.
- The Bison have not scored in their last two fixtures, but have also held their opponents without a goal in two of their past four games.
- A big part of Bucknell's shutout against Army was the play of freshman goalkeeper Luke Smith, who saved a penalty and made two other big saves in the second half to keep the Black Knights off the scoresheet. Smith was named the Bison Athlete of the Week for his efforts, and has now tallied three shutouts this season.
- Smith is allowing just 0.77 goals per game in his seven appearances this season, fourth in the Patriot League. The native of Devon, Pa. is also one of only four goalkeepers in the league to record multiple shutouts in conference games this season.
- Senior Daniel Hallowell earned his first start since a 2-1 defeat at Boston University on Oct. 28 of last season in Bucknell's game against Cornell on Tuesday evening.
- Bucknell has scored 17 of its 21 goals this season in the second half or overtime.
- Junior midfielder Matt Thorsheim currently ranks fourth in the Patriot League in points with 15 (5G, 5A). The Manalapan, N.J. native is also the only player in the Patriot League with five or more goals and assists this season.
- The Bison have had nine different goalscorers this season, and 13 different players record a point.
- Eddie Perez-Pelaez, Jacob Mittman, Jameson Railey, Chris Masur, Trevor Wiggins, and Kevin Gulizio all have tallied their first collegiate goal this season.
- Patrick O'Hara, tied for the team lead in goals with Thorsheim, has scored his five goals on just six shot on target.
- Bucknell opened the Patriot League campaign last season against the Leopards, with the Bison holding onto a 1-0 win on a 10th minute goal by Michael Pavick. Nick King and Matt Thorsheim both assisted on the play.
- The two teams combined for just three shots on goal in the game.
- Bucknell dropped a 1-0 decision the last time the two teams met in Easton on a first-half corner kick. The two teams combined for just three shots on goal once again in a defensive battle.
- Bucknell holds a narrow 32-31-7 record over the Leopards in the all-time series, with Lafayette taking three out of the last four matchups.
- The 1-0 win for Bucknell in 2018 snapped a three-game scoreless streak for the Bison against Lafayette since 2015, in which the Leopards claimed three straight 1-0 victories.
- The Bison will have one more regular season contest on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Patriot League leaders Lehigh.
