Men's Cross Country Makes Trip to Colgate for Patriot League Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University men's cross country team will look to improve upon a third-place showing at last season's Patriot League Championships when it heads to Hamilton, N.Y. for the second time this season for the Patriot League Championships.

About the Bison
- Bucknell will head into Saturday's race after last competing at the Penn State National Open and Lafayette Invite on Oct. 18 and 19, respectively.
- Bucknell returns four of its top five and five of its top six runners from last season, and will gain an additional boost by the return of Drew Dorflinger, who will return to Patriot League Championship competition after missing last year's meet due to an injury.
- Dorflinger took 17th in the 2017 race at Lehigh, en route to just missing All-Conference honors.
- Connor McMenamin also placed in the top 20 in that meet.
- The Bison finished third last season after finishing fifth in 2016 and 2017, with two runners earning All-Patriot League Second Team honors.
- Senior Brian Dengler crossed the line in 12th to earn Bucknell's top finish on the day, while Jake Stupak was close behind in 13th as both earned All-Patriot League recognition for the first time.
- Bucknell's third-place finish was the highest for the Bison since a runner-up showing in 2014, also finishing ahead of Navy for the first time in the 16 years the Mids have been a member of the Patriot League.
- Sophomore Brendan O'Toole (21st) and McMenamin both return as scored runners for the Bison in 2018.
- Brendan McGill (33rd), Evan Minor (43rd), and Matt Vira (48th) all return as top-50 finishers for the Bison from last year's meet.
- Bucknell finished sixth as a team when the meet was last held at Colgate in 2015.
- The Bison had a chance to test the Harry H. Lang Cross Country Course on Sept. 7 when it competed in the Harry Lang Invite.
- Freshman Samuel Whittaker posted the top finish for Bucknell in that meet after placing 12th overall in the field of 84. Fellow freshman Greg Eisenhower also had a strong day, placing in the top 20.
- Bucknell last won a Patriot League team title in 1999 to cap of three straight years of Patriot League Championships under Hall of Fame Head Coach Art Gulden.
- Army and Navy have combined for 10 of the last 11 titles, with the Black Knights emerging victorious the past two seasons.
- Bucknell ranks tied for third in team titles with six along with American, and are behind Army (9), and Navy (8) since 1990. The Bison also hold have had four different individual champions, with Bryan Johnston taking the crown most recently in 2002. David Bronfendrenner, 2019 Bucknell Hall of Fame inductee Matt Deardorff, and Norbert Berenyl hold the other individual Patriot League titles for the Bison.
