ITHACA, N.Y. --Â The Bucknell University men's soccer team was shut out for just the fourth time this season in its final nonconference matchup of the regular season as it dropped a 1-0 decision at Cornell on Tuesday evening.Â
Bucknell, which saw its five-game unbeaten streak snapped in the defeat, drops to 5-6-5 on the season, while Cornell improves to 8-5-1 this season.
The first half saw a stalemate between the two schools, which were both coming off draws in league play on Saturday.   Neither team managed a shot on the day until the Big Red's John Scearce forced Bucknell goalkeeper Emmett Witmer into a low save in the 17th minute.Â
Cornell had several more looks at goal in the first 45 minutes, but two more saves by Witmer helped keep Cornell off the board as Bucknell didn't manage a shot in the first half.Â
Cornell eventually took the lead at the 56:14 mark in the second half on a free kick converted in the upper left side of the goal by Brady Dickens, who was assisted on the play by Tyler Bagley.Â
Stefan Gollisz finally tallied Bucknell's first shot of the day right after the Bison kicked off after the goal just 36 seconds later, but his low effort to the right side was saved by Cornell goalkeeper Brady McSwain.Â
Bucknell thought it had an equalizer in the game after Eddie Perez-Pelaez put the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed as Bucknell kept searching for the tying goal.Â
Bucknell looked hard-pressed to find an equalizer late, but had a great chance to equalize with just a few seconds later when Gollisz had a decent look in the box. However, the junior's shot went just over the bar as Cornell held on for the 1-0 win.Â
Bucknell only managed the two shots on the day, and one corner. Cornell managed nine shots with six on target in snapping a three-game winless streak.Â
"It was a tough midweek game on the road against a quality opponent," said Head Coach Brendan Nash. "We asked our players to work hard this week after the game against Army, and they passed our test of character in fighting until the end. Now we'll look forward to two important matchups against Lafayette and Lehigh."  Â
The Bison will now focus their attention back on Patriot League play in a 6 p.m. contest at Lafayette on Saturday.Â
