ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Bucknell held several leads in the first set and tied the score late in the second, but ultimately suffered a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-19) loss to Navy Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Bison go to 13-6 on the season and 2-5 in Patriot League play.
The Bison tested Navy early in the match, pulling ahead twice early on in the first set. However, a 6-2 run by the Midshipmen created separation that Bucknell wouldn't overcome, and Navy ran away with a 25-15 win.
The Bison failed to gain a lead in the second set, but kept things close. Five times the Bison tied the score and trailed by just one at 23-22, but Navy wound up on top again to gain a 2-0 lead in the match.
Trailing 23-16 in the third, Mimi Richards posted two consecutive kills, and Sophie Bullard scored on a service ace to cut the deficit to just four, but Navy went on to score the final two points and win the match. It was only the second time this season the Bison have gone down in three sets.
Bullard's 11 kills led the Bison, while Richards recorded six and two block assists. Richards also maintained a hitting percentage of .333. Topping Richards was Kelsey O'Loughlin with a .500 percentage. The freshman also had five kills on 10 attempts to go along with 24 assists and six digs.
Up next, Bucknell travels to Colgate for a 4 p.m. match this Saturday. The Bison are 23-42 in all-time meetings with the Raiders. Saturday's match will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
