HAMILTON, N.Y. – Bucknell volleyball went to battle with the Colgate Raiders Saturday afternoon, falling in three sets (25-14, 25-13, 25-23) to the undefeated Patriot League leaders. With the loss, the Bison fall to 13-7 overall and 2-7 in league play.
The Bison fell behind early in the first set, allowing the Raiders to go on a couple of 4-1 runs that grew the deficit. The second set played out in similar fashion, with Colgate jumping out to a quick 7-1 lead. Trailing 14-6, the Bison posted three consecutive kills to get within five. However, Colgate went on to outscore the Bison 11-4 to take a two-set lead.
It looked like the Bison's struggles would carry over into the third set after Colgate took an 8-4 lead, but Bucknell went on a 13-2 run to take a 17-10 lead in the set. Fighting to stay alive in the match, the Bison held onto the lead until the Raiders went ahead 23-22. The Bison would collect one more kill before Colgate came away with the 25-23 win and the sweep.
The Bison were led by the efforts of Mimi Richards, who totaled nine kills and a hitting percentage of .389. Emma Buchanan had five kills and was right behind Richards with a .273 percentage. Senior libero Brooke Stark led the Bison in digs with 11.
Bucknell stays on the road next weekend when it travels to matches at Lafayette and Lehigh. The Bison defeated Lafayette 3-1 at home earlier in the season. Friday's match is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
