Women's Swim & Dive Holds Bison Invite for Final PL Tune-Up

Bucknell at a Glance
• Bucknell finished dual competition with an 8-1 (6-1 Patriot League) record after dispatching Lehigh, 161-137, on Jan. 26 at Kinney Natatorium.
• With their Senior Day triumph, the Bison reached the eight-win threshold for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign, when they went 8-2 (6-0 Patriot League). Bucknell used 28 top-three finishes to down the Mountain Hawks, who also entered the rivalry meet with a 7-1 overall record.
• Julie Byrne was the standout for the Bison, winning the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke and teaming with Mary Weinstein, Alexis Faria and Megan Koczur for a first-place showing in the 200 medley relay. Bucknell's other individual champions were Maddie Hartigan (500 freestyle), Jessica Hurlburt (1-meter dive), Abby Merriman (1,000 freestyle), Lindsay Smalec (100 butterfly) and Maggie Wyngowski (100 breaststroke).
• Saturday's Bison Invite is the team's final tune-up before the 2019 Patriot League Championships, set for Feb. 20-23 at Kinney Natatorium. American, Army West Point, Delaware, Lafayette and Shippensburg are scheduled to attend.
• The Bison hosted all eight of their 2018-19 dual meets at Kinney Natatorium. Their dual meet against Wagner, which was scheduled for Jan. 20 at Columbia's Percy Uris Natatorium, was canceled due to the snowstorm that hit the Northeast. It would have been their first, and only, dual meet on the road this season.
• In 2017-18, the Bison went 6-3 (4-2 Patriot League) in dual meets. Bucknell went on to place fourth (423 points) at the 10-team Patriot League Championships and third (309 points) at the 24-team ECAC Championships.
• Wyngowski (1st), Julianna Foss (1st), Emma Hadley (2nd) and Smalec (2nd) were Bucknell's 2018 All-Patriot League honorees. In addition, Wyngowski became the second Bison to be named the Rookie of the Patriot League Championships.
• Of Bucknell's 2018 All-Patriot League selections, only Foss was lost to graduation. The Bison also returned 2017 All-Patriot League picks Abigail Rosenberg (1st), Hadley (1st) and Byrne (2nd).
• Two school-record holders are on the 2018-19 roster: Rosenberg (100 freestyle, 50.42; 200 freestyle, 1:48.29) and Wyngowski (200 breaststroke, 2:14.98; 400 IM, 4:17.80).
• Returnees Byrne (200 medley), Emily Gorham (200 freestyle, 800 freestyle), Hadley (400 medley), Smalec (400 medley, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle) and Rosenberg (400 medley, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle) were members of school record setting relay teams.
• The program welcomed 11 newcomers in 2018-19. They hail from nine different states: Pennsylvania (3), Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas and Virginia.
Bison Celebrate Seniors
• Before Jan. 26's meet against Lehigh, the Bison celebrated their six-woman senior class.
• Bucknell's 2018-19 seniors are Megan Barpoulis, Steph Boyd, Julie Byrne, Abigail Rosenberg, Lindsay Smalec and Mary Weinstein.
• The seniors have scored a combined 285.5 points at the Patriot League Championships. Together, they have posted a combined 13 program top-10 times in individual events, with Rosenberg owning school records in the 100 freestyle (50.42) and 200 freestyle (1:48.29).
• Rosenberg (1st in 2017), Byrne (2nd in 2017) and Smalec (2nd in 2018) have previously captured All-Patriot League accolades. In addition, Byrne was named a CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-American in 2018 and 2017.
