LEWISBURG, Pa. – This season, the Bucknell women's lacrosse team will team with the HEADstrong Foundation to help improve lives affected by cancer. The Bison, who are currently raising funds as part of the organization's "Game Hair Havoc" initiative, will celebrate their efforts during March 17's Patriot League opener against American, which is set for 3 p.m. at Graham Field.
"HEADstrong is an incredible and important organization, and we are thrilled to participate in their 'Game Hair Havoc' fundraiser," said head coach Remington Steele. "Our players and coaches are incredibly passionate about the cause and have been working very hard to raise as much money as possible. We hope to make this a long standing partnership and appreciate all of the support."
To date, Bucknell has raised over $4,000, the second most of any program involved in the "Game Hair Havoc" initiative. Through this fundraiser, the HEADstrong Foundation is looking to ignite the philanthropic spirit of the lacrosse community and raise more than $100,000 this year to commemorate the 250,000 American families that will be shattered by the news of cancer diagnosis over the duration of the campaign. "Game Hair Havoc" is an interactive online fundraiser encouraging student-athletes to braid their hair and raise money to help families.
The HEADstrong Foundation offers financial, residential and emotional support to families affected by cancer. It is based just outside of Philadelphia, where patients often travel seeking care and leaving their homes behind. The organization supports cancer patients and their families with peer support, comfort kits, financial help and lodging for families who have no place to stay while in the Philadelphia area. Founded by the late Nicholas Colleluori, a former lacrosse player at Hofstra University who battled non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, the foundation is relentless in improving quality of life for those affected by cancer.
