Jacobs Won On Court One Against Wofford
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman Ethan Jacobs made his collegiate dual debut and posted a solid win over Wofford's Julian Chousa at No. 1 singles on Saturday to highlight Bucknell's first competition of the spring. The Bison opened with a 6-1 loss to Wofford before falling 5-0 to No. 6 North Carolina. Both matches were played at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Jacobs, who won six matches during the fall season, went three sets to pick up his first win of the spring. He dropped the first set 6-3, tied it up with a 7-5 win in set two, and then outlasted Chousa 12-10 in the final set. Chousa moved up to the top spot in Wofford's lineup after playing on court two as a sophomore last season.
The Terriers, who ended the day at 1-2 overall, took two of three doubles matches. The third was deadlocked at 5-all when play was stopped. Jacobs was teaming with fellow freshman Ryan Jurist on court two in that match.
Bucknell played a nationally-ranked UNC team for the second straight season. The teams chose not to play doubles. The Tar Heels won all five finished singles matches.
"It was a good way to start the season having four players compete in their first collegiate matches," Bucknell head coach Bruce Myers said. "Obviously, UNC is the best team we will play all season. We were missing senior captain Andrei Vitiuc, who is recovering from an injury, and we will look to have him back in the lineup next weekend."
The Bison will compete at the NJIT Winter Invite on Jan. 26-27.
