HAMILTON, N.Y. -- In its 2018-19 debut at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational at Seven Oaks Golf Club, the Bucknell men's golf team had a tough first round with a 309 team score, but the Bison bounced back with a strong 3-over-par 291 in the afternoon. Bucknell sits in 11th place out of 17 teams with a 36-hole total of 600. Freshman Jason Lohwater shot a 1-under 71 in the second round, and he is the low Bison through 36 at 3-over 147.
Lohwater, a Rochester native making his collegiate debut back in his home state, made four birdies and 12 pars in his terrific afternoon round. His only blemishes were a bogey at the par-4 ninth hole and a double at the par-3 14th. Lohwater made two birdies in a first-round 76, and he enters the final round in a tie for 23rd place.
Each of the other four Bison in the lineup also improved from round one to round two. Senior J.P. Raftery bounced back from a first-round 78 to fire an even-par 72 in round two. Senior Jubal Early shot 77-74, freshman Carter Cook shot 78-74, and Peter Bradbeer posted 79-78. Sophomore Chris Tanabe, playing as an individual, followed up a 77 with a 2-under 70. Tanabe made five birdies to cancel out three bogeys in the second round, and he is the low indie through 36 holes.
Led by a terrific day from Brendan Cronin (66-69), Lafayette is out to a huge lead in the team standings. The Leopards are at 10-under 566 and have a 19-shot lead over Colgate and Lehigh. Seton Hall and Binghamton round out the top five. At 9-under, Cronin leads teammate Kazuki Osawa by seven shots for the individual lead.
The third and final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
