LEWISBURG, Pa. -- After a sensational weekend by the Bucknell men's golf team, senior Connor O'Brien and sophomore Chris Tanabe have been named Co-Bison Athletes of the Week. O'Brien and Tanabe both shot 71-69 for a 4-under-par total of 140, leading the Bison to the team title at the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge in Vermont.Â
O'Brien and Tanabe finished in a four-way tie atop the individual leaderboard, alongside Brown's Drew Powell and Drexel's Connor Schmidt. Powell claimed the first-place medal with a birdie on the first playoff hole, but it was the Bison walking off with well-deserved team honors.Â
After beginning the final round in sixth place, five shots off the lead, Bucknell posted a 7-under 281 on Sunday to win by five over co-runners-up Cornell and Princeton. The 7-under round was the best team score in school history in relation to par, bettering the previous mark of 4-under by three shots. The 281 total was also the best ever recorded on an away golf course.Â
O'Brien's terrific weekend came in his season debut. Tanabe has played in all three events, and he lowered his fall scoring average to 72.1. He is averaging 71.4 over his last seven rounds.Â
The Bison will look to keep up their recent hot play this coming weekend at Yale's MacDonald Cup in New Haven, Conn.
