Willwerth and Kenney Scored Two Goals Apiece for the Bison
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey improved to 2-0 in Patriot League play with a 5-1 win at Lehigh on Saturday at Ulrich Field. The win was the 100th of head coach Jeremy Cook's career, all of which came during his 11 seasons with the Bison.
Brittany Willwerth and Megan Keeney scored two goals apiece, while Katie Mannino added one score. Bucknell, which improved to 5-3 overall, has out-scored its opponents 11-1 in its two league games.
Willwerth scored the first two goals of the game, putting the Bison up 1-0 midway through the first half, before making it 2-0 just 3:35 into the second half. The junior has five goals and one assist through two Patriot League games.
The next two goals went to Keeney. The sophomore entered the game with one career goal, but added two to that total in a span of 3:01 to put Bucknell up 4-0.
Lehigh managed to get on the scoreboard thanks to a goal by Lenke Havas, but Mannino responded to that with her third score of the season.
Bucknell tallied assists on its first four goals. They came from Chloe Poltonavage, Nicole Rupnik, M.C. Evans, and Leah Fogelsanger. Rupnik has six points (2G, 2A) in the team's two league games.
Olivia Harris was solid in goal for Bucknell, stopping four shots. The Bison out-shot the Mountain Hawks 24-7 and had an 11-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Cook is just the second coach in program history to reach the 100-win milestone. Heather Lewis totaled 128 wins in 16 seasons as Bucknell coach from 1992-2007.
The Bison will play a non-conference game at Monmouth on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Hawks are 4-5 after back-to-back wins over Villanova and Vermont. Three of their losses came to nationally-ranked opponents.
