The Bison Led 2-0 Midway Through the First Half
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Bucknell took an early 2-0 lead, but Monmouth scored the final three goals, including the game-winner with 24 seconds left in regulation, to get the 3-2 victory over the Bison in a non-conference field hockey game Sunday at So Sweet a Cat Field.
Bucknell dropped to 5-4 overall and went 1-1 on the weekend. The win was an important one as the Bison improved to 2-0 in the Patriot League with a 5-1 win at Lehigh on Saturday. Monmouth upped its record to 5-5.
The Bison struck first just 4:28 into the game on Lexi Quick's fourth goal of the season. The score came following a penalty corner and was assisted by Allie Christopher.
Christopher registered her second assist of the game as Bucknell took a 2-0 lead on Nicole Rupnik's goal in the 21st minute. It was the senior's fifth goal of the season.
Monmouth cut its deficit to one midway through the first half and then tied it early in the second half. That set up Kelly Hanna's game-winning goal in the closing seconds.
Bucknell goalie Olivia Harris, who finished with four saves, made a nice play to stop a shot by Garden Bachop, but Hanna was able to snag the rebound and send it in to help put the game away.
Both of Bucknell's goals came against Monmouth's starting goalie. Kate O'Hogan entered to start the second half and stopped both shots she faced to pick up the win.
The Bison have their bye week in league play coming up and will host VCU for a non-conference matchup on Sunday at 1 p.m.
