Connor McMenamin Was Bucknell's Top Runner for the Third Straight Meet
RESULTS
JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. – The Bucknell men's cross country team posted a 12th-place finish in a 23-team field that included six nationally-ranked squads on Friday at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown. The event was hosted by Boston College at the Franklin Park course.
Sophomore Connor McMenamin was the top Bucknell runner for the third straight meet, finishing 66th out of 215 runners. He clocked in at 25:28 on the 8k course. Junior Jacob Stupak was just five spots behind him in 71st.
Bucknell had four runners in the top 100 with senior Chad Sussman taking 76th and freshman Brendan O'Toole finishing 83rd. Junior Brendan McGill rounded out the Bison's scored runners in 149th, and junior Brian Dengler was 150th.
"I was very happy with the 12th-place finish," Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner said. "Our top four ran very well. We had too big of a gap between our fourth and fifth runners. I believe we have the people that can fill that gap."
Campbell sophomore Amon Kemboi won the individual race with a time of 24:03, edging Syracuse junior Aidan Tooker by less than a second.
No. 10 Syracuse won the team title with a score of 37, easily beating runner-up Washington, ranked 26th in the nation, which had a score of 70. Also participating were nationally-ranked teams in No. 12 Campbell, No. 17 Virginia, No. 30 Ole Miss, and No. 15 Johns Hopkins (DIII).
Bucknell's 12th-place finish came with a score of 414, putting it ahead of 11 teams, including Johns Hopkins, Providence, and Brown in the three spots directly after the Bison.
"These type of larger and more competitive meets cause bigger breakups between good and average runners, and we saw that with our team," Donner said. "With that said, we will get back to work on Sunday and start preparing for Penn State in three weeks and the league meet in five weeks."
The Bison will next run on Saturday, Sept. 29, when they compete at the Paul Short Run. The event is hosted by Lehigh on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
