Field Hockey Drops Road Game at #12 Syracuse

The Bison Had Won Four Straight Games
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Â Bucknell trailed No. 12 Syracuse 1-0 at the half, but the Orange pulled away with two-second half goals to get the 3-0 win in a non-conference field hockey game Sunday at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
The Bison saw their four-game winning streak come to a halt, dropping to 4-3 on the season. The Orange improved to 4-3.
Bucknell had scoring opportunities in the game, racking up four penalty corners and four shots on goal. Syracuse goalkeeper Borg van der Velde, an all-region selection as a freshman last season, stopped all four shots she faced.
Brittany Willwerth tallied two shots on goal for the Bison, while Lexi Quick and Emily Doyle had one apiece.
The teams were scoreless through the first 23 minutes of action before Chiara Gutsche put Syracuse up 1-0. Roos Weers and Peyton Kemp added second-half goals for the Orange.
Up next for Bucknell is a Patriot League game at Lehigh on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Bison are 1-0 in league play with a 6-0 win over Colgate on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks are 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference with a 3-2 overtime loss to Lafayette.
