Men's Golf Opens with 301 at Wildcat Invitational

MALVERN, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's golf team posted a 301 team score on Monday and sits in a tie for 13th place at the halfway point of the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Villanova at White Manor CC.
J.P. Raftery led the Bison with a 2-over-par 73. He began his day on the fifth hole and sandwiched two birdies at 7 and 9 around a bogey. Raftery parred very hole on the back nine and was still 1-under headed back to the first hole, but a double-bogey at No. 1 and a bogey at No. 2 sent him out of red numbers. Raftery is tied for 18th place individually.
Chris Tanabe also made two birdies en route to a 75, and Peter Bradbeer made an eagle at the par-5 sixth hole on the way to a 76. Jubal Early and Connor O'Brien both shot 77.
Drexel counted four scores between 69-72 and posted a 2-under 282. St. John's and St. Peter's is tied for second at 290, followed by Fordham (292), Delaware (295) and Wagner (295). Bucknell's 301 is tied for 13th along with Le Moyne. The Bison are positioned ahead of Rider (302), Monmouth (302), Villanova (305), Colgate (309) and La Salle (311).
David Powers of St. Peters fired a 3-under 68 to take the individual lead. Drexel's Adam Mistretta (-2), Fordham's Matt Schiller (-1) and Drexel's Aaron Fricke (-1) also posted sub-par rounds.
The second and final round gets going on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Bucknell will be paired with Le Moyne, Rider and Monmouth.
