CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lukas Munoz was recognized as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the Bucknell men's lacrosse team's 16-9 victory over Boston University, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Munoz, who was also selected as the Bison Athlete of the Week, helped the Bison hold the Terriers scoreless for the final 41 minutes of the contest. Over that stretch, Bucknell outscored Boston University by a 10-0 margin to turn a 9-6 deficit into their third Patriot League victory of the season.
Munoz led all players with four caused turnovers, forcing three in the second half alone. He also paced the Bison with five ground balls. Both are new career highs for the senior, who is one of nine Bison who has started all seven games in 2018.
These are Munoz's first weekly accolades. Munoz is the third Bison to capture a Patriot League weekly award this season, joining Will Sands and Christian Klipstein. Sands is already a three-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week while Klipstein garnered Goalkeeper of the Week laurels after Bucknell's upset at then No. 18/20 Colgate.
Munoz and the Bison return to action tomorrow when they take on No. 15/16 Penn at 4 p.m. in Philadelphia.
