LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Bucknell women's water polo team hung with No. 15 Long Beach State for the majority of the game but ultimately dropped an 8-5 decision on Thursday night at the Lindgren Aquatics Center.
With 16 seconds remaining in the third period, Colleen Barron struck during a power play to draw the Bison within one, at 6-5. During the final frame, the Beach tacked on two goals while Eirini Patras made two saves and got some help from the post on a Barron bullet to keep Bucknell off the board.
At halftime, Long Beach State held a slim 3-2 lead. After the Beach extended its advantage to 4-2 early in the third quarter, the Bison responded with two unanswered goals by Marta Considine and Shyla Lintz to even the score with 4:03 on the clock. Long Beach State then netted the next two goals, setting up Barron's power-play strike that drew Bucknell back within one.
Kali Hyham also found the back of the net for the Bison. Manuela Herrera was strong in between the pipes, making 10 saves and recording two steals.
Considine now needs four goals to record the 100th of her career.
For the Beach, Raney Remme and Isabel Riley each potted two goals. Patras finished with six saves.
