Women's Water Polo Edges George Washington, 8-7, in Overtime

LORETTO, Pa. – The Bucknell women's water polo team edged George Washington, 8-7, in overtime on Saturday night at Saint Francis's Stokes Natatorium.
After forcing overtime by netting two unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, the Bison (9-12, 0-0 CWPA) then struck three times in the first extra frame to build an 8-5 lead. That three-goal cushion proved to be exactly what they needed to earn a victory, as they held the Colonials to two goals in the second bonus stanza.
Emily Konishi sent Bucknell into overtime for the first time this season, evening the score at five apiece with 2:02 remaining in regulation. Ally Furano recorded both of her goals in overtime, sandwiched around a Konishi strike.
Konishi (3g-1a), Furano (2g-1a), Colleen Barron (1g-2a) and Gigi Rojahn (1g-2a) had multi-point nights. Barron and Rojahn also tied Shyla Lintz for the team lead with two ejections drawn while Konishi tied Marta Considine for first among Bison with three steals.
Earlier in the day, the Bison gave No. 13 Indiana a battle but ultimately fell by an 11-8 decision. Furano (4g) and Konishi (2g-2a) factored into half of Bucknell's goals, with Furano also leading the team with two ejections drawn and Konishi recording a team-best three steals.
A 5-0 second quarter gave the Hoosiers a 7-2 lead at halftime. While the Bison outscored them by a 3-2 margin in both the third and fourth quarters, they were unable to draw even again.
Considine, who netted one goal against the Colonials, is a hat trick away from reaching the 100-goal plateau.
Bucknell next faces off against Saint Francis tomorrow at 2 p.m.
