LORETTO, Pa. – The Bucknell women's water polo team rolled to a 15-9 victory over Saint Francis on Sunday afternoon at Stokes Natatorium.
Nina Benson paced the attack with four goals while Marta Considine and Colleen Barron added hat tricks. The Bison (10-12, 0-0 CWPA) outscored the Red Flash by a 12-4 margin in the middle two quarters, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Ally Furano recorded both of her goals in the third quarter while Emily Konishi, Shyla Lintz and Kali Hyham also found the back of the net over the course of the contest.
After building a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, Bucknell outscored Saint Francis, 7-3, in the second frame to make it a 10-4 game. The Bison continued their offensive onslaught in the third stanza, holding a 5-1 edge in goals. While the Red Flash netted four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, it wasn't enough to make up its deficit.
Barron completed her hat trick at the 3:33 mark of the third quarter; that goal was also the 100th of her collegiate career.
Bucknell's 15 goals was tied for its second highest total of the 2018 campaign; the Bison defeated Gannon, 17-9, on Feb. 10 and McKendree, 15-4, on Feb. 3. This was the first time they reached the double digits in goals since Feb. 11, an 11-4 victory over Siena.
Earlier this season, the Bison and Red Flash met at the Bison Invitational. Bucknell outscored Saint Francis, 7-3, in the middle two quarters to walk away a 13-8 victor.
The Bison next host Mercyhurst on Saturday, March 31 at 3 p.m. for their final home game of the regular season. Before the contest, they will recognize seniors Barron, Considine, Manuela Herrera and Lintz.
