Salisbury Named Bison Athlete of the Week

She Broke a 20-Year Old Bucknell Record on Saturday at the Bison Opener
LEWISBURG, Pa.—Kaitlin Salisbury has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week after she opened up her junior campaign by breaking a 20-year old Bucknell record in the long jump at the Bison Opener on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Salisbury leapt 19-3 ½ feet to finish third in the meet behind a pair of jumpers from Penn State. She also qualified for ECAC's in March with her jump. The jump smashed her previous record of 18-10 ¾ and was two inches ahead of the previous record set by Jen Rice in 1998 (19-1 ½).
Salisbury also posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 7.63 in the prelims of the 60-meter dash, which was just .01 short of her school-record time of 7.62. Salisbury did not run in the finals due to her ongoing participation in the long jump.
This is the first time in Salisbury's career that she has been named the Bison Athlete of the week, and the first Bison Athlete of the week honor by a women's track and field athlete since Maura Fiamoncini won the honor the week of April 29.
Salisbury and the rest of the women's track and field team return to action after the New Year on Jan. 12 at the Nittany Lion Invitational.
