Women's Basketball Beats St. Bonaventure 77-46 for Fourth Straight Win

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Bucknell hit 11 3-pointers, including four by Abby Kapp and three by Ally Johnson, and rolled to a 77-46 win at St. Bonaventure in a non-conference women's basketball matchup Thursday night at the Reilly Center.
The Bison improved to 6-2 overall, their best start since the 2000-01 season. The Bonnies dropped to 2-5.
Johnson led all scorers with 14 points thanks to a 3-for-6 night from beyond the arc. Kapp was right behind her with 12 points, all coming from a 4-for-6 mark from long range.
Both Kapp and Johnson are tearing up from beyond the arc this season. Kapp has connected on 50 percent (25-50) of her attempts and has hit 19 over the last five games. Johnson is 52 percent (12-23) on the season and has made at least one 3-pointer in seven-straight games.
The pair was joined in double-figures by Kate Walker with 13 points and Ellie Mack with 12. Walker did most of her damage early, scoring the first seven points by either team in the opening 1:56 of play. She finished with eight in the first quarter to help Bucknell take an 11-10 lead.
Bucknell out-scored St. Bonaventure 14-4 in the final 5:13 of the first half to take a 36-24 lead and then pretty much put the game out of reach with a 17-0 run in the third quarter.
Mack scored 11 points during the big run, the last of which came on a free throw that put Bucknell up 53-26 with 5:12 left in the quarter. The run started with a 3-point play by Kaitlyn Slagus and also included a 3-pointer by Kapp.
Bucknell had a 26-8 advantage in the third quarter, scoring 25 points in a single quarter for the fifth time in four games. The Bison would go on to lead by as much as 33 (72-39) on a 3-pointer by Johnson with 5:06 to play.
The Bison's 11 3-pointers came on 30 attempts. Mack, Kyi English, Gia Hayes, and Maegan Mikkelsen had one apiece.
A strong defensive effort kept Bucknell ahead in the first half until the offense started to click. The Bison forced 25 turnovers and finished with nine steals. They have totaled nine or more steals in six of the team's eight games this season. English, Slagus, and Autumn Ceppi had two steals apiece against the Bonnies.
Eleven players scored for Bucknell, including six points by Ceppi and five apiece by English and Hayes. Tessa Brugler tied for the team lead with five rebounds, including two offensive to help the Bison finish with 17 second-chance points. They added 23 points off turnovers.
Dajah Logan and Asianae Johnson each had nine points to pace St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies were held to 39 percent shooting with a 16-for-41 clip from the field.
After playing seven of the first eight games away from its home court, Bucknell will play its next three at Sojka Pavilion. The homestand starts with a game against Iona on Sunday at 2 p.m.
