LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team dropped to sixth at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.
The Bison, who were fourth entering the second day, now own 568.5 points. Defending champion Towson (933.5) remains in the lead with La Salle (667) a distant second. Georgetown and Davidson are tied for third with 665.5 points apiece.
A highlight of the day for Bucknell was a second-place finish by the 200 medley relay team of Jack Rose, Chadd Cummings, Liam Pitt and Charlie McFarland. The quartet clocked a time of 1:31.71, good for eighth in school history.
Cummings added a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 56.11. His time in the finals, as well as his 55.91 preliminary mark, would have slotted him fifth in the Bison annals if he wasn't already the school record holder (54.65).
Cummings's 200 medley relay teammate Rose also had a strong day. He was third in the 100 backstroke, timing in at 50.73.
Beyond Cummings and Rose, Garrett Sommer (4th, 1-meter dive), Liam Pitt (6th, 100 butterfly) and Will Cadwallader (7th, 1-meter dive) also reached the 'A' finals in their respective events. Cadwallader's score of 246.40 was a new personal record; he remained slotted 10th in school history.
The 800 freestyle relay team of Matt McGoey, Mitch Gavars, Vince Filippini and Sean Quinn closed the day with a seventh-place showing.
The Bucknell Invitational wraps up tomorrow, with the preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and the finals following at 5 p.m.
