The Sophomore Posted Her First Career Double-Double
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Delanie Lewis stepped into the starting lineup for the first time and came through with a big night to lead Bucknell to a 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-22, 25-19) win over Lafayette in a Patriot League volleyball match Saturday at Davis Gym.
Lewis recorded her first career double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs, both of which were career highs. She hit .351 on the night and added two aces, helping Bucknell improve to 6-10 overall and 1-4 in the Patriot League.
Bucknell had solid performances all around, including a 41-assist night from sophomore setter Alexa Bonanno. She helped three Bison players finish with double-digit kills, including junior Mimi Richards with 13 and senior Blake Buchholz with 12. Buchholz added 14 digs for her second double-double of the season.
The Bison seized momentum early thanks to a three-point rally in the opening set. Trailing 24-23, they scored with a kill by Lewis, a block by Buchholz and Richards, and a block by Richards and Bonanno. That proved to be huge as Lafayette would go on to win the second set, tying the match instead of taking a 2-0 lead.
Bucknell hit .292 as a team, including nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage by junior Bridgette Holland. Freshman Jennie Burke hit .353 and contributed seven kills. Holland had a team-leading four block assists, while junior Brooke Stark matched Lewis with a team-high 17 digs.
Lafayette, which dropped to 5-12 overall and 0-5 in the Patriot League, was led by Grace Tulevech with 18 kills and a .459 hitting percentage. Julia Howard tallied 52 assists.
The Bison have won three consecutive games against the Leopards, including a season sweep last year.
Bucknell will host Lehigh on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are 15-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference with three straight wins over Army West Point, Holy Cross, and Lafayette.
