Field Hockey Home Winning Streak Ends with Overtime Loss to American
10/6/2018 2:48:00 PM | Field Hockey
The Bison Had Won Eight Straight Home Games Dating Back to Last Season
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Olivia Harris was great in goal again with a career-high 10 saves, but American's Noor Coenen scored with 2:28 remaining in overtime to give the Eagles a 1-0 win over the Bison in a Patriot League field hockey matchup Saturday at Graham Field.
American improved to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League, while Bucknell dropped to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The game was a rematch of a semifinal matchup in last season's Patriot League Tournament that the Bison won in a shootout.
American had a scoring opportunity early in overtime, but Bucknell's Sally Olson made a defensive save. The game-winning goal came a little over three minutes later. Coenen had her first shot saved by Harris, but snagged her own rebound and put it in for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Harris made four saves in the first half and five in the second, which included a stretch of eight minutes that the Bison had to play shorthanded due to a pair of penalties. Her biggest save was a stop of a penalty stroke by Rafaela Rubas, the reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, in the first half.
American finished with a 14-11 advantage in shots and an 11-4 difference in penalty corners. The Bison had three corner chances in the final 2:41 of regulation.
Bucknell also had the first good look in overtime. Sam Chanzit, a defender, beat the defense up the left side of the field and received a nice pass across the field. She had a nice shot that went just wide left.
Harris has made 19 saves while giving up just three goals over the past two games combined. She had nine saves in a 3-2 win over VCU last game and was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week.
The loss ended an eight-game home winning streak for the Bison. It was the team's first loss at Graham Field since Sept. 12, 2017.
Bucknell is back at Graham Field to host Yale on Sunday at 3 p.m. It will be team's annual Play4Pink game and will include a raffle to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Go HERE for more information or to make a donation.
