Brian Dengler, Jacob Stupak, and Chad Sussman All Earned All-Patriot League Honors
RESULTS
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Three Bucknell runners earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors while leading the Bison men's cross country team to a third-place finish Saturday at the Patriot League Championships. The event was hosted by Bucknell for the first time since 2004.
"Going in I felt like fourth would be a great day and to finish third was a moral victory," Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner said. "Our men were patient during the first lap and most moved up nicely,"
Junior Brian Dengler was the top Bucknell runner with a 12th-place finish, crossing the line in 26:24 on the 8k course. Junior Jacob Stupak and senior Chad Sussman finished right behind Dengler in 13th and 14th, respectively. All three runners earned All-Patriot League recognition for the first time.
"Dengler really ran well and that put us in position to beat Navy for third," Donner said. "They handled the course conditions as well as anybody. This is a group of men that everyone should be proud of. We went in a bit undermanned due to some health issues with a couple of our top guys. I feel as though we are finally turning the corner with our men's cross country team and this high place should set us up well for the future."
Navy junior Kevin Murray won the individual title with a time of 25:27. Army West Point junior Roman Ollar (25:36) and Boston University senior Alexander Seal (25:38) rounded out the top three. The field included 112 runners.
Army West Point won the team title for the second straight year, finishing with a score of 32. Boston University was the runner-up at 51, and Bucknell took third at 85. Navy (95) and Lehigh (118) rounded out the top five at the 10-team event.
The third-place finish was the highest for Bucknell since a runner-up showing in 2014. The Bison finished ahead of Navy for the first time in the 16 years the Mids have been in the Patriot League.
Rounding out Bucknell's scored runners were freshman Brendan O'Toole in 21st and sophomore Connor McMenamin in 28th. Also competing were junior Brendan McGill (33rd), sophomore Evan Minor (43rd), junior Matthew Vira (48th), junior Terryl Ferrell (54th), sophomore Ben Littman (60th), freshman Ryan Miele (71st), and senior Landin Delaney (90th).
The Bison now turn their attention to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals, which will be held at Penn State on Friday, Nov. 9.
