Brian Dengler Was Bucknell's Top Runner in 40th
RESULTS
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Junior Brian Dengler was Bucknell's top runner for the second straight postseason meet as the Bison finished 12th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Penn State on Friday at the Blue and White Course.
"Our men got out slow today. We were too far back at the mile," Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner said. "We worked our way up pretty good through four miles, but then just kind of ran out of steam."
Dengler finished 40th out of 168 runners, crossing the line with a time of 32:19 on the 10k course. Senior Chad Sussman wasn't far behind him, taking 54th with a time of 32:39.
Rounding out Bucknell's lineup were freshman Brendan O'Toole (71st), junior Jacob Stupak (76th), sophomore Connor McMenamin (89th), junior Brendan McGill (111th), and sophomore Evan Minor (130th).
"Stupak was out pretty good but fell on a turn at two miles and couldn't quite get back into the place he wanted," Donner said. "That probably cost him about 40 spots. Dengler ran great again and I felt Sussman ran very well."
Dengler, Stupak, and Sussman all earned All-Patriot League honors two weeks ago.
Villanova junior Casey Comber won the regional title with a time of 31:05, finishing three seconds faster than runner-up Nicholas Wareham, a sophomore for Georgetown.
Princeton won the team title with a score of 61 and was followed by Villanova (73) and Georgetown (97). Bucknell was the second-best Patriot League team, finishing behind Navy (8th) and ahead of Lehigh (15th), American (18th), Lafayette (21st), and Loyola (24th).
"Although we were a bit disappointed with our 12th-place finish, I was happy with the culture that our men created this year," Donner said.
