Men's Cross Country Takes Sixth at Gettysburg Invitational

The Bison Were Led by Matthew Vira in 32nd
RESULTS
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Matthew Vira and Terryl Ferrell each finished in the top 40 out of 276 runners to lead the Bucknell men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday. Twenty-eight teams ran at the meet, which was held at the Gettysburg College Cross Country Course.
Vira completed the 8k course in 27:11 and took 32nd, while Ferrell was two spots behind him in 34th with a time of 27:17. The five scored runners for Bucknell finished within 50 seconds of each other.
Rounding out the Bison's scored runners were Scott Gulizio (61st), Nick Pacelli (63rd), and Riley Gardner (74th). Also competing were Matt Cervon (78th), Quenton Long (79th), and Brian Babyak (117th).
"I thought our men ran pretty well," Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner said. "Vira is developing consistency and Ferrell had a breakout race. The course was pretty muddy, and I thought we handled it well."
The individual race was won by Kyle Wagener in 25:48. The fastest collegiate runner was Nick Fransham (Mount St. Mary's) with a time of 25:54.
Mount St. Mary's had a score of 41 to win the team title. Saint Francis was the runner-up with a score of 59. Bucknell's sixth-place finish came with a final tally of 244. The Bison sent eight runners to the event after having the top part of its lineup compete at the Penn State National Open on Friday.
The Bison will host the Bucknell Tuneup on Friday. It's the last meet before they host the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27.
