LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Andrei Vitiuc has been named the Corvias Patriot League Men's Tennis Player of the Week after going 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles in matches against Cleveland State and La Salle last week. Vitiuc helped the Bison roll to a 6-1 win over the Explorers, giving head coach Bruce Myers his first victory with the Bison.
Vitiuc did his part as Bucknell nearly beat Cleveland State, falling 4-3. He rallied after a first set loss to take the third flight against Cleveland State's William Malm 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. He followed that up with a 6-4 doubles win against La Salle with teammate Max Kane and then won at No. 2 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
Vitiuc earned his second career Player of the Week award. The first came during his freshman season after he won in three sets over Penn State's Mark Collado at No. 5 singles.
Bucknell continues its difficult non-conference schedule with a pair of matches at Penn State this weekend. The Bison will play James Madison on Saturday at 5 p.m., and will take on the Nittany Lions on Sunday at 5 p.m.
