Men's Tennis Tops Queens College 5-2

LEWISBURG, Pa. –The Bucknell men's tennis team took on a tough Division II squad Friday, recording a 5-2 win over visiting Queens College at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. The Bison improved to 11-10 overall with the win over the Knights, who had won three of their past five matches against Division I opponents.
The Bison got things started by securing the doubles point with wins in both contested matches. Nick Bybel and Daniel Wright played together for the first time in over a month and posted a 6-2 victory at No. 1. Max Kane and Timber Erskine were 6-4 winners at No. 2.
Three of Bucknell's four singles wins came in three sets, including Bybel's triumph at No. 1. He stumbled in the second set, but won decisively in sets on (6-2) and three (6-1). He improved to 14-3 this spring with his 10th straight win.
Sophomore Daniel Wright had his five-match winning streak snapped in Bucknell's most recent contest, but bounced back with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 at No. 2 against Queens College. The win came over Ryan Frankel and upped his record to 12-6.
At No. 4 singles, freshman Andrei Vitiuc needed just two sets to defeat Lucas Martinez 6-1, 7-6. Sophomore Timber Erskine went the distance in a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 win.
Queens College dropped to 9-4 on the season. Over the past three seasons, the Knights have posted wins over Division I opponents in Niagara, Saint Peter's and St. Francis (N.Y.).
Bucknell is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Quakertown, Pennsylvania to play a league match against Lafayette. The match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Tennis Zone & Fitness Center.
