Men's Tennis Shuts Out Lafayette

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team recorded its 14th straight win in the series with Lafayette, shutting out the Leopards 7-0 on Saturday at the Tennis Zone & Fitness Center. The Bison improved to 12-10 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League while shutting out the Leopards for the second straight season.
Sophomore Timber Erskine stepped up to play No. 5 singles and had the most dominant win of the day for Bucknell, shutting out his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Max McDonald stepped in behind him at No. 6 and nearly did the same with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Senior Nick Bybel, sophomore Daniel Wright and freshman Andrei Vitiuc faced minimal trouble in their singles matches, with none of the three giving up more than two games in straight-sets wins. Bybel cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1, Wright won with ease by a 6-2, 6-0 score at No. 2, and Vitiuc rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Sophomore Max Kane had the lone match of the day that went three sets. He rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-5 victory at No. 3.
The Bison won just as easily in doubles, including a 6-0 shutout by Bybel and Wright at No. 1. Kane and Erskine teamed up for a 6-1 win at No. 2, and Vitiuc and sophomore Ben Gerber won by the same score at No. 3.
Lafayette fell to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League.
Bucknell will be back on the road for another league match when it travels to play Lehigh on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
