CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Marta Considine had two goals and three other Bison tallied one apiece, but the No. 20 Bucknell women's water polo team suffered a 10-5 first-round loss at the CWPA Championship to No. 21 Hartwick Friday afternoon at Harvard's Blodgett Pool. The Bison were the No. 3 seed in the nine-team field, while the Hawks were the No. 6 seed.
Bucknell (16-15) entered the CWPA Championship having won seven of its last 11 games, including two against ranked opponents. However, the Bison were unable to keep that momentum going as they never led against the Hawks (16-12), who outscored Bucknell 7-2 over the final three periods.
The teams alternated goals through the first 17 minutes of the contest and a Considine goal with 7:20 left in the third quarter knotted the score at 4-4. Hartwick tallied the final three goals in the period and Bucknell never drew closer than two the rest of the way.
Tegan Stanbach, Kendyl Johnson and Eleanor Marrs scored the other goals for the Bison, while Haley Derrod posted six saves in cage.
Bucknell will now play seventh-seeded Brown Sunday at noon. The Bison can still finish as high as fifth. Hartwick will face Indiana in Saturday's semifinals.
