CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Eleanor Marrs scored three goals and Tegan Stanbach and Marta Considine added two apiece as the No. 20 Bucknell women's water polo team defeated Brown 10-6 Saturday afternoon at the CWPA Championship. The third-seeded Bison advanced on to Sunday's fifth-place game, while the seventh-seeded Bears will play in Sunday's seventh-place game.
Bucknell (17-15), which defeated Brown 13-9 three weeks ago, outscored the Bears by two goals in both halves. The Bison defense held Brown (10-25) scoreless for more than 10 minutes, including the entire third quarter, at one point. Goalie Manuela Herrera entered the game at halftime and posted seven saves against just two goals allowed.
The Bison led 6-4 at halftime and extended that to 8-4 at the conclusion of the third quarter.
Hannah Sunday drew a career-high 10 ejections for Bucknell as she eclipsed her own single-season program record in that category. She now has 126 ejections drawn this season. Sunday also scored a goal, tying her for fourth place on the school's single-season ledger.
With a win on Sunday against either host Harvard or George Washington (pending outcome of Saturday evening's game) Bucknell will post its best CWPA Championship finish since placing fifth in 2010. The Bison's 17 wins this season are their most since winning that many in 2010.
Sunday's fifth-place game is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
