LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's track and field sophomore Christine Bendzinski has been named M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week, following a record-setting performance at the Bison Outdoor Classic over the weekend at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Bendzinski set the school record in the 1,500-meter, placing second out of 56 with a time of 4:19.99. Her time shaved six seconds off the previous program mark set by Caroline Tolli in 2013 (4:25.55) and broke the previous facility record set in 2012 (4:20.11). Bendzinski's time is the fastest in the Patriot League this season and is ninth on the leaderboard for the NCAA East Region.
Sophia Nnadi was an honorable mention after posting a pair of ECAC-qualifying marks in the hammer (171-10) and discus (143-2) events. Nnadi's throw in the hammer is the top toss in the Patriot League this season.
Overall, it was an impressive showing by the Bison women, who broke school records in two other events. Kate Scott set the program mark in the 5,000 with a time of 16:38.21, breaking the previous record set by Emily Liggett in 2012 (16:51.95), while Jess Bridle set a new record in the 200 with a time of 24.55.
Bucknell will be back at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium for the Bucknell Team Challenge, a one-day event, on Saturday.
