Sunday's Five Goals Lead Women's Water Polo to First Win Over Princeton Since 2010

PRINCETON, N.J. – Hannah Sunday scored a season-high five goals to lead the Bucknell women's water polo team to a 10-9 victory over No. 15 Princeton Sunday evening at DeNunzio Pool. It marked the second win over a ranked opponent this weekend for the Bison, who defeated the Tigers for the first time since 2010.
Earlier in the day Bucknell played a close game against No. 13 Indiana, but fell by a 13-11 score to the Hoosiers.
Bucknell (16-14, 4-3 CWPA) finished its difficult weekend schedule with a 2-2 record. The Bison played four nationally ranked teams and defeated No. 18 Harvard on Saturday and No. 15 Princeton (17-6, 4-3 CWPA) on Sunday. Bucknell had lost eight straight to the Tigers, last defeating them 11-9 on April 25, 2010.
Sunday's five goals were the most by a Bucknell player this season. She also had three earlier in the day against Indiana, giving her a team-high 67 goals this season, tying her for fifth on the program's single-season list with Taylor Barnett.
Eleanor Marrs scored the Bison's 10th goal of the game with 3:45 remaining in the fourth quarter, staking Bucknell to a 10-8 lead. That goal proved to be the winning score.
The Bison never trailed in the contest, leading by as many as three goals (8-5) midway through the third quarter.
Haley Derrod posted eight saves against Princeton. She also had five stops against the Hoosiers.
Sunday led Bucknell with her three goals against Indiana (21-6, 6-1 CWPA). Tegan Stanbach, Emily Konishi and Marrs added two goals apiece. The score was tied 9-9 at the end of the third quarter, but the Hoosiers outscored the Bison 4-2 in the final period.
Bucknell, which has its most wins since 2010 (16), has completed its regular season. The Bison will now gear up for the CWPA Championship April 29-May 1. Bucknell is the third seed in the nine-team field, one spot ahead of Princeton.
