Men's Tennis Wins 5-2 at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Bucknell won five of six singles matches on its way to a 5-2 win at Villanova in a non-conference men's tennis match on Tuesday. The Bison upped their record to 9-9, while the Wildcats saw their record fall to 4-8.
After losing the doubles point, Bucknell won the first four completed singles contests to clinch the match. Four of the Bison's five singles wins went three sets. They lost the first set of all four.
Senior Nick Bybel and sophomore Daniel Wright both kept their winning streaks intact. Bybel ran his streak to seven matches, improving to 11-3 this spring with a 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. Wright increased his streak to four matches and improved to 10-5 with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2.
The Bison added wins at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles. Sophomore Max Kane dropped his first set 6-7 (6) at No. 3 before bouncing back with 6-3, 6-1 victories. At No. 4, freshman Andrei Vitiuc fell 4-6 in the first set, but responded with 6-4 and 6-1 wins. Sophomore Ben Gerber needed just two sets for his win at No. 5.
Bucknell's lone doubles triumph came from Wright and Gerber at No. 3. The duo improved to 7-3 with an exciting 7-6 (6) victory.
Bucknell opens league play with a pair of home matches this weekend. The Bison will host Loyola (Md.) on Saturday and Colgate on Sunday. They will celebrate Senior Day prior to Saturday's match.
