Cioffi Named Bison Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa . – Senior Maria Cioffi has been named the 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week after leading the Bucknell women's tennis team to wins over a pair of returning NCAA qualifiers last week. Cioffi highlighted the wins with victories over two players that have earned Player of the Year in their respective conferences.
Cioffi went 3-0 at the top flight in singles play and added a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles against Bryant during the Bison's spring break trip in Florida. The senior captured an exciting three-set victory over Quinnipiac's Sophia Dzulynsky (2014 MAAC Player of the Year) and then added straight-set wins at No. 1 against Milwaukee's Labina Petrovska and Bryant's Ryan Brown (2015 NEC Player of the Year).
With the three wins, Cioffi moved her way up to third on Bucknell's career singles wins list with a record of 80-33. She also jumped to fourth in overall wins with a career mark of 150-67 in singles and doubles combined.
Cioffi has won five straight in singles competition, improving to 6-2 during the spring. She has led Bucknell to a 5-4 record. The Bison will travel to play Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
