Women's Lacrosse Drops Patriot League Opener at Boston University, 17-7

BOSTON, Mass. -- Playing its fourth game in the last seven days, the Bucknell women's lacrosse team fell 17-7 at Boston University in its Patriot League opener on Saturday at Nickerson Field. Emily Becker scored two goals for the Bison, who fell to 6-3 overall and saw their three-game winning streak came to an end.
Jill Horka scored three times and five others scored two goals each for the Terriers, who are now 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the Patriot League. Taylor Hardison dished out four assists.
Boston University took control right from the start, going up 4-0 after just eight minutes of play. The Terriers outshot Bucknell 28-8 and 9-2 after 30 minutes of play. They finished with a 40-20 shot advantage and also led 24-17 in ground balls and 15-11 in draw controls.
Freshman goalie Jamie DeWitt was a bright spot for Bucknell, finishing with a season-high 13 saves and six ground balls. Gretchen Richter recorded a goal, an assist and three draw controls, and Eve Lukowski, Sam Rickels, Christina Manis and Mary Margaret Kenney also scored for the Bison.
Bucknell came into the game ranked fifth nationally in goals per game but was held to half its season average by the Terriers.
The Bison return to action next Saturday against Army West Point at 1 p.m. at Graham Field.
